The Days Of Rodeo Are Upon Us.

Travis $cott has has gathered almost an occult following ever since he dropped his mixtape Owl Pharaoh, back in 2013 after signing with Grand Hustle as a Rapper and G.O.O.D. Music as a producer. The project was known for tracks that got its listeners hype & A1 production. His next project titled ‘Days Before Radio‘ took that to another level entirely. With lyrics driven by what seems like excessive drug use and a refusal to conform alongside booming, dark and downright sinister production, La Flame set up his major label debut in a big way by getting getting his fans (myself included) hype and ready for his major label debut & now here we are.
When I bought Rodeo and played it in the car, I didn’t like it at first. ‘Days Before Rodeo’ had me spoiled. I wanted more of the raging lyricism that Travis had brought is his prior project. It’s not like it was totally absent on from the project but I kind of feel that more energy was put into the production. But I gave it a chance & a second listen and I’m very glad that I did because with each listen the record got better and better songs like ‘Oh My/Dis Side’ , ‘Nightcrawler’ & ‘Pray 4 Love’ have been stuck in my head and on my speakers ever since the album dropped last week. The project includes features from the likes of Kanye West, Quavo of the Migos, Chief Keef, The Weeknd Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd, Toro Y Moi, TI, Future & 2 Chainz, Young Thug & even Justin Beiber makes an appearance. The unique thing about the project is how almost every song transitions and changes the tone and theme of the track. Oh My/ Dis Side for example starts off like a track meant for the club with its menacing production and Travis & Quavo trading lyrics about hitting licks, money and bitches & then out of nowhere the song morph’s into this upbeat happy song about celebrating life and how far they’ve come. Its really cool and transitions like that can be found through out the album and it makes for a unique listening experience. Give Rodeo a listen and see for yourself!
